We're committed to ending fast fashion. That's why we're banning the biggest culprits from being bought, sold, or listed on Vestiaire Collective.
We're saying no to a system that supports overconsumption and overproduction.
In the past 15 years, global clothing production has doubled. We’re buying more items than ever before, but we’re using them 40% less. Instead, we encourage you to buy fewer, better quality pieces that last, and to discard any fast fashion items responsibly so they don't end up in landfill.
Finding sustainable solutions to disposing of your fast fashion is a complex issue, and it doesn't have a simple answer. The best thing we can do is adopt better shopping habits in the first place. But the second best thing is to avoid binning what we already own. If you need some ideas, we suggest that you...
- Reconsider: think about re-styling your items to make them feel fresh again.
- Upcycle: get creative and upcycle your fast fashion items into something unique.
- Swap: organise a clothing swap to clear out your closet (and find some new favourites too).
- Donate: do a good deed and give your unwanted clothes to trusted charities in your community.
- Recycle: make cleaning cloths out of items that are too well-worn to swap or donate.
