Duties and taxes will vary according to the type of item being imported and the country the item is being imported into. Any applicable duties and taxes will appear in the checkout at Vestiaire Collective and can include any of the following:
- Customs Duties
- Import VAT
- Handling fee
What are customs duties?
Customs duties are a type of tax applied to goods being imported into a country. These duties will vary according to:
- The type of item being imported
- The country the item is being imported into
This means that any customs duties will be specific to each individual order placed.
Wherever possible, customs duties are clearly listed with any shipping, handling or 🔍 authentication fees during the checkout process under ‘Import Duties and Taxes.’

Good to know: If your item crosses an international border, whether to undergo checks or as part of delivery, a €6 handling fee, or your currency equivalent, will be applied. This fee will automatically be included at checkout under ‘Import Duties and Taxes’.
What is the ‘customs value’?
Duties and taxes are calculated using the customs value. The customs value of an item is made up of the following elements:
The price of the item + shipping fees + Authentication fees, minus any applicable offer or voucher
What is import VAT?
Import VAT is a fixed government tax on items being imported into a country. The import VAT applied, if any, will be the VAT rate of the country into which the item is being imported.
Good to know: Import VAT is calculated on the customs value + customs duties of the item as explained above.
Why am I being asked to pay additional duties?
If a shipping company has asked you to pay additional customs fees, despite the fact that you selected to pay these while placing your order, please 🔍 contact us.
What happens if I don’t pay the requested customs fees?
The package will be shipped back to a Vestiaire Collective hub. Once we receive it, we'll list the item for sale on your account. When it sells, we'll ship the order to the buyer and you'll receive payment for the sale.
Why doesn’t my promo code cover the cost of Custom duties & VAT?
Promo codes and vouchers can only be applied to an item’s purchase price. Any authentication fees, import duties and taxes, or sales tax must be paid for during checkout, using your preferred payment method
